Mod style, punk attitude, rock and roll party, dancing surf...; what are the NeverEvers and who?
The Never Evers are the Never Evers! Or call it we are what we are! We are a bunch of guys who have similar ideas how good music has to sound and how we should behave on stage. Some may remember "Live fast, die Young!" We live fast and don't care of the rest! We combine this attidude musically and play some wild tunes! Some people also say that were mind opening magicians...
We are:
Renato - Guitar, Vocals
also known as Renelvis, the worst elvis impersonator on the planet
Alessandro - Bass, Vocals
well known as being cool-as-cool-can-be or aka mr. perfect
Alfonso - Guitar, Vocals
known for his excellent fashion style
El Miguel - Drums
also known for his excellent skills in figure skating
One of you played in the crazy band Tab Hunter, what happened with that project. Is it from the reminiscent of that band, from where you get the punkier taste?
Well, that's a long story... It's actually Alfonso who is from Tab Hunter. We once kidnapped Alfonso right off the stage during a Tab Hunter Gig and keep him since that in our cellar and play nonstop Julio Iglesias records to him. We actually just let him out for gigs! In Spain it will be the first time since 4 Years that he will be out of the cellar for more than 2 hours! We will see what happens...
From time to time we "rent" him to Tab Hunter for some shows on request. There are about eleven unreleased Tab Hunter recordings, including two songs sung in Swiss German and two sung by their loveley Drummer Kinky Hunter. Kinky plays now in a band called "the Mad Cowgirls" and Randy Hunter plays the guitar with "The Men from S.P.E.C.T.R.E." And of course Don Hunter is now know as the fabolous Alfonso, the guitar player and singer of the Never Evers.
Of course all our background "shines" into The Never Evers and so, also Alfonso's fine musical and fashion style enlightens The NeverEvers.
Who are your most confessed influences, and the non confessed ones?
Everybody in our band has different influences and the interesting part is to merge that together. What we all have in common is certainly that we are all into Garage music from the sixties. Other styles that are listened to by us are Surf, Polka, Indie, Early 80's punk rock, Walz ...
Who are those honey bunnies that dance in your shows? You make girls go go go crazy?
The Never Evers make girls dance cause we are a girly band! Look at us! But we don't bring our dancers to Spain, cause of security reasons... no they have to get on with their studies at that time, but if there are some spanish girls or boys, which like to dance during our show, just for fun.... feel free to send an email to contact us!
What other great things are happening in your homeland, apart from you? (you may see I am avoiding to spell the name of your country...)
The past ten years or so have been really in the hands of electronical music. Recently we had a lot of real cool band's turning up! I mean really cool bands, such as the Men from SPECTRE, The Monsters, The Get Lost, Reverend Beatman, The Come n'Goes, The Mad Cow Girls, les RockeMons and so on... We also have two great Record Labels Sheep Records and Voodoo Rhythm. Luckily most cool bands who are touring in Europe stop by in Switzerland. So in general we cannot complain.
How is your EP doing? When will you have ready the new one? You are going to keep it in the same record company, Sheep records?
The actual EP is doing quite well, regarding that it is our first record. The CD Format is almost sold out. Vinyls are still a few around.
The second EP will come out in December also on Sheep Records, cause we're signed there and are gonna release an LP next Year. The Record Release Party will also be a huge "Sheep Records Label Night" together with the Men from SPECTRE and Los Banditos (all on Sheep Records).
How was the recording session in London, at Toe Rag?
This was very cool. Toe Rag has everything you need
..and Liam Watson is brilliant
everything went really easily
there is wonderful stuff to play on!! Liam Watson understood right away how it should sound like. We also had a really good time with Liam and Fabienne!
Is this going to be your first big tour for you guys (being so far away from home)? How did Spain squeeze in your planning?
For most of us it is. We were in Germany for some gigs and in France as well, and we're thinking of doing a tour next year in Germany! Alfonso has been touring with Tab Hunter in Spain before and loved it! We think Spain is amazing and the Spanish crowd is maybe the craziest in Europe...
Paloma from Confecciones Drácula, Valencia has seen one of our shows, she liked the show and asked us to come to Spain! There was no reason to say no! We look very much forward to it!!!
How do you think this is going to be like? What should we think you are going to be like?
We think we're gonna have a great and wild time! And the spanish people will hopefully like our stuff. We think it's hard to say, what people should expect from us. Go and see the show, try to forget for a while what's happening around you, dance and drink a couple of beers and tequila shots with us...You should expect a fun night out...
Tell Spain why should we go to see you, and anything else that you think my ignorance has omitted from the interview...
Why not going to see some exotic swiss freaks playing some rock'n'roll music and give you swiss cheese for free at our shows! Just come hearing us, Im sure youll have a pleasant evening with classy music and bittersweet sweat...
